Awards & Press
Cottage in the Dales are delighted to have received industry awards and press articles supporting our business. Here are a few over the last few years.
Winner - LABC Best Inclusive Building in England & Wales 2018 (November 2018)
We are honoured, delighted & truly gobsmacked to say the least as our fully accessible cottage, The Dairy, has been awarded the LABC Building Excellence Award for the Best Inclusive Building in England & Wales 2018 at a superb awards dinner at the Park Plaza Hotel, Westminster in London. We were honoured to be representing Yorkshire at the Grand Finals after winning the regional award for North & East Yorshire and then asked to represent Yorkshire. We were definitely the ‘David’ amongst the ‘Goliaths’, especially as we found out afterwards that one of the other 11 finalists in our category was the £1 billion Bloomberg building in London!!!! Thank you LABC (Local Authority Building Controls).

Winner - Best Self-Catering Property in England 2017 (April 2017)
The proudest day ever for us - The Byre from Cottage in the Dales is the NATIONAL WINNER of the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence : Self-Catering Property of the Year 2017.
We are truly dumbfounded to be recognised by the tourism industry to be the best in England ... alongside having so many returning guests each year as our greatest award. It doesn’t get any better than this! The Byre has come a long way in such a short time ... 6 years ago it was structurally unsound and about to fall down. The Byre received its first guests just 4 years ago. Since then it has been full about 90+% of the year with only a handful of nights not used each year. Awarded best in Yorkshire last November along with Inglenook, The Byre is now the best in England.
Winner - Yorkshire Self-Catering Accommodation of the Year 2016 (November 2016)
Exciting News - We are thrilled to have won the White Rose Award for the Yorkshire Self-Catering Accommodation of the Year 2016.
Returning guests will always be our greatest ‘award’: they demonstrate that we are delivering a unique product, which they want to experience again and again. In the meantime, we will continue to pride ourselves on delivering a personal experience, whether someone is coming for the first time, or returning for the tenth. Taking guests to a restaurant on their anniversary or recommending walks - our pleasure is ensuring theirs.
The Byre is lead feature in VisitEngland 'The Laws of Luxury' (February 2016)
Cottage in the Dales is delighted that The Byre is featured as the large lead photo in the article ‘The laws of luxury’ in the latest VisitEngland ‘Quality Edge’ magazine.
You can access the magazine online where the article starts on page 10 of issue 22. Here you can see the two photos of The Byre and read the article, which includes two quotes from Diane. The magazine from VisitEngland has the objective of ‘inspiring excellence in our tourism industry’ and so aimed at the many accommodation providers across the country. Diane was delighted to be asked to contribute and amazed to find our photos used to lead the article.
The Byre is feature article in Daily Mirror 'Getaway 2016' (January 2016)
The Daily Mirror Saturday 23 January is promoting their ‘Getaway 2016’ supplement.
On page 3 you will find our very own The Byre featured in the main article ‘Dale me in’ and also in their online Travel section under British Breaks ‘The glorious Yorkshire Dales really is God’s own country whatever the weather’. As the author of the article, and our guest - Jack Blanchard commented, “...our own cottage, The Byre, is surely one of the most beautiful in the Dales” and a “romantic retreat for two”. Our guests’ comments support that view and we certainly agree with Jack that “God’s Own County is grand all year round.” We invite our guests to comment on the Daily Mirror article online.

Finalist in 2010 Yorkshire Rural Awards for Green Businesses (March 2010)
Cottage in the Dales are delighted to be finalists in the 2010 Yorkshire Rural Awards in the 'Green Business' category.
David Butterworth, the CEO of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority nominated Cottage in the Dales for the work we have done in helping to promote other businesses in going green based on our own experiences. The organisers advised there were numerous nominations for this category so to get to the final three is both a surprise and an honour, especially as the awards are across all industries, not just tourism and that the nomination was from the National Park, which we are most grateful. Andrew and Diane enjoyed the black tie awards evening on 13 May at the Harrogate Pavilions hosted by John Craven.
The Sunday Times recommends Craggley Cottage (Jan 2011) & Inglenook Cottage (Jan 2009)
The Sunday Times Travel Supplement on Sunday 16 January 2011 included a feature article recommending their top 50 self-catering places to stay in the UK for 2011, including Craggley Cottage.
This highly regarded newspaper recommended Inglenook Cottage as one of their '50 cool cottages in Britain and Ireland' as outlined in a six page feature article in their Travel Supplement on Sunday 25 January 2009.
"The whole finding-a-cottage palaver – it's fraught with risk. Unless you book one that we've specially selected...Rustic Chic = No 38 INGLENOOK, Yorkshire. If it were in America, Wensleydale would be trumpeted as waterfall country. Instead, it's known for an insipid cheese and a plasticine pooch. It sure is gorgeous though, and Inglenook Cottage in West Burton makes a great base for exploring. It mixes authentic 18th-century toastiness, a slick new kitchen and bathroom, and mesmerising window-seat views of the dale." Read the full article online (Inglenook is on page 4 no 38).
Finalist in the Yorkshire Self-Catering Holiday of the Year 2008 (June 2008)
Cottage in the Dales is proud to announce that we have been selected as a finalist for the Self-Catering Holiday of the Year 2008 in the Yorkshire Tourist Board White Rose Awards. As one of six finalists, this is a tremendous privilege to have been selected amongst such strong competition.
The White Rose Awards for Tourism are the top accolade for tourism in Yorkshire. The judges assessed submissions across a range of subjects that demonstrated a focus on high quality of service and accommodation, innovation in marketing, a strong business case and demonstrated evidence of a high level of visitor satisfaction and value for money. The results were announced at an 'oscars-style' ceremony at the newly renovated Bridlington Spa. Over 500 people from large and small tourism businesses throughout Yorkshire attended, resulting in one of the largest tourism awards ceremony of its kind in the UK.
